Building for Bridgend County Borough’s future

Thank you for your interest in this unique finance and transformation leadership role with the opportunity to shape the future Bridgend County Borough Council.

Welcome

Welcome to Bridgend County Borough Council. We are delighted that you are considering joining our team at such an exciting time in our journey. As we continue to transform our organisation and invest in the future of our communities, we are seeking an exceptional leader to take on one of the most influential and wide ranging roles within the council, Corporate Director – Transformation and Finance.

Bridgend County Borough covers around 100 square miles with a growing population of more than 145,000. Located 20 miles West of Cardiff, with excellent transport connections, a beautiful coastline, strong communities, a growing economy and valleys with a proud industrial heritage. Bridgend County Borough is an ambitious council with significant opportunities ahead. Major regeneration programmes are already transforming key locations across the county, including Porthcawl, Bridgend Town Centre and a number of strategic growth sites. Our LDP was the first in Wales to be approved and is amongst the most ambitious. These investments will help shape the future prosperity of the area and create lasting benefits for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

This role sits at the heart of these ambitions. Whilst fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of the Section 151 Officer, this is far more than a traditional finance leadership position. As our Corporate Director, you will lead a broad portfolio spanning finance, audit, ICT, customer services, programme management and transformation, making a significant contribution to the future direction of the council.

Transformation and change are central to our future success. We have invested in strengthening our Senior Leadership Team and have created the capacity, capability and focus needed to accelerate organisational change. Working closely with the Chief Executive and one of the most experienced corporate teams in Wales you will play a leading role in driving our transformation agenda, overseeing major change programmes, championing innovation and helping us embrace new technologies, digitalisation and artificial intelligence to improve services and outcomes for our residents.

You will join an organisation built on strong foundations. Our finances are well managed and provide a platform for strategic investment and long-term sustainability. We are recognised for our prudent financial stewardship, maintaining the lowest levels of borrowing in Wales whilst consistently delivering strong financial performance. Education, waste and Social services performance is excellent. This stability creates an opportunity that we now need to take. An opportunity to think differently, innovate and support the council’s ambitions for growth, regeneration and service improvement.

You will inherit a stable, experienced and highly capable team. The finance function is well established and respected, providing the accounting expertise to support excellent financial management that needs to be placed at the heart of our change programme.  This will allow you to focus on strategic leadership, partnership working and shaping the organisation’s future direction.

We are looking for a leader who combines technical credibility with creativity, innovation and a genuine passion for public service. Someone who can see beyond the numbers, challenge convention, unlock opportunities, take measured risks and inspire others to embrace change. We intend to invest wisely in our County Borough and we want you to be at the heart of it. You will work closely with the Chief Executive, Cabinet and colleagues across the organisation to help deliver our vision for Bridgend and ensure the council remains financially sustainable, innovative and fit for the future.

On this site you will find further information about Bridgend County Borough, the council, and details about this key role – Corporate Director – Transformation and Finance.

We have huge ambitions for our organisation, our communities and our county borough, and this role will be instrumental in helping us realise them. If you believe you have the experience, leadership and vision to make a lasting impact, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Best wishes,

 Jake Morgan
